17th century dinner (mpg, video)

We call ourselves Ö-spel because we come from Kaskinen, which is an island, and the Swedish word for island is ö. Our repertoire consists of all sorts of folk and ethno music. Sonja plays the piano accordion and box accordion, Rose-Marie plays the violin, the flute and the bodhra and Stina plays the violin and the mandolin. We like to entertain at weddings, parties and other celebrations, both formal and more casual. Why not a 17th century dinner with entertainment?

In 2001 we published the book Drivved, which presents Ö-spel's music and tunes together with short stories where each one of us revels in youth and childhood memories. In 2003 and 2005 we performed the song and music drama Brita Larsdotter together with a group of local singers and musicians. Stina became inspired to write the manuscript during the creation of the exhibition of the witch hunts.

In 2009 we arranged a 17th century dinner at Gottorp. Rose-Marie wrote the manuscript and it turned into a cheerful event full of feeling. The audience quickly caught on and joined in on the toasts and drinking songs and left with full stomachs and not so dry throats.

In 2009 we got the opportunity to take part in Canterbury Faerie Festival in England. The audience thought our music sounded a bit different and exotic, although we weren't even dressed up as fairies! It was, however, a different and inspiring experience to participate in this magical festival.

We also arrange recurrent summer concerts with different themes, for example Lyckopiller (Happy pill) and Rör om i grytan (Stir the pot), at Gallery Gottorp. In the future we plan to record a CD with new favourites. Owing to the 20th anniversary of Gallery Gottorp we will organize a big FuMuGeNa-festival in the summer of 2011. It will be a mega fusion of music from different generations and nations!
